Intranet Programming ...continued

Desktop databases such as MS Access, DBase and Lotus approach are often used to provide business functionality in organizations. This can means multiple licenses and database locking problems as more users require access to the information available in those databases.

Developing an intranet to replace or extend these desktop systems can have significant advantages.

In the same way that an intranet is generally deemed to work within the confines of your company network, it is possible to allow highly secure and selective access to your information to external entities. This might include your clients and suppliers. An intranet that extends availability outside the confines of the company network is often termed an extranet.
